Korey Barton, 22, of Stafford, was taken into custody Tuesday, March 4, following an alleged assault at a Willington motel, according to Connecticut State Police.

The woman told police she and Barton were at a motel on Ruby Road around 6:45 a.m. when they began arguing. Troopers did not disclose the reason for the dispute.

The woman told investigators that when she turned to leave, Barton grabbed her arm, threw her to the ground, and strangled her, according to a police report. After a brief struggle, he let go, and she ran away.

Troopers said the woman suffered injuries consistent with her account of the attack.

Barton had already left by the time police arrived. Troopers later found him at his home, where he confirmed they had argued but denied assaulting her, according to the report.

Barton was charged with third-degree assault, third-degree strangulation, second-degree unlawful restraint, disorderly conduct, and violating a protective order, authorities said.

Barton was being held on a $35,000 bond, police said.
